Semaglutide vs. tirzepatide: which is right for you?

Both are once-weekly injections that quiet appetite and support weight loss. They are not identical. Here is how they actually differ.

Semaglutide vs. tirzepatide: which is right for you?

Semaglutide and tirzepatide are the two compounded GLP-1 options EverSlim offers. They share a lot: both are once-weekly injections, both reduce appetite and slow stomach emptying, and both have been studied in large randomized trials. The differences come down to how they work, how much weight people lose on average, and how your body tolerates them.

Different mechanisms

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics a single gut hormone (GLP-1) that signals fullness to your brain and slows digestion. Tirzepatide is a dual agonist: it activates both GLP-1 and a second hormone receptor, GIP. Activating two pathways appears to produce a stronger appetite and metabolic effect for many people.

How they compare

Because tirzepatide works on two hormone pathways rather than one, it tends to produce greater average weight loss than semaglutide for many people. Any change builds gradually over many months of treatment as the dose is stepped up, not in the first few weeks.

No two people respond the same way. Individual results vary widely and depend on dose, how long you stay on treatment, lifestyle, and provider guidance. EverSlim has not conducted its own clinical studies.

Dosing and how you start

Both medications start low and step up slowly, a process called titration that is designed to limit side effects. Semaglutide typically begins at 0.25 mg weekly. Tirzepatide typically begins at 2.5 mg weekly. Your provider raises the dose over weeks to months based on how you respond and tolerate it, not on a fixed schedule.

Side effects are similar

The most common effects for both are gastrointestinal: nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and occasionally vomiting. They tend to be mild, show up early, and fade as your body adjusts and as the dose is raised gradually. Eating smaller meals, staying hydrated, and prioritizing protein and fiber help. Serious effects are uncommon but real, which is why a licensed provider monitors you.

So which one?

  • Tirzepatide's dual action tends to produce greater average weight loss and may suit larger weight-loss goals.
  • Semaglutide has a longer real-world track record and a lower starting price.
  • Tolerability is individual. Some people do better on one than the other.
  • Cost and your starting point matter too.

There is no universally correct answer. The honest one: your licensed provider reviews your health history and goals during your visit and recommends the option that fits you. You can also switch later if the first choice is not the right fit.
